Review of The Fox and the Hound (1981) by Jess L — 06 Feb 2013
An adorable and underrated Disney animation that often goes unheard of. Made in 1981 it falls into a group of Disney films that didn't receive as much promotion or accolade as later hits such as The Little Mermaid (1989). Essentially this isn't up to the "classic" Disney standard though there is plenty in this film for Kids and Disney enthusiasts to enjoy.
It's quite a melancholic Disney film, dealing with the unlikely and ultimately impossible friendship between a hound dog pup and a fox cub. As they grow older they realise that in the real world they are sworn enemies and that they must grow up and fulfill the roles that nature has given them.
A touching, memorable and fun Disney film that is well worth hunting down. The animation is quite stunning also, the opening forest scene is beautiful and understated.
