Review of The Fox and the Hound (1981) by Nathan R — 05 Aug 2016
When you divert from original source material it always raises an eyebrow for me, especially when the material is really good. However, here they had a story and a message to tell and they told it fairly well.
A story about how two people, represented by the titular fox and hound of the title, start as friends early in life, but the world in which they live and their peers around them pull them apart. Soon the friends are no longer able to live in the more innocent world they once inhabited and are force to live in a much colder crueler one.
The film doesn't go nearly as dark as the book, but it still manages to pack so much emotion and a relevant message for children. Quite, funny, sad, and poignant, the Fox and the Hound is, and will be, a classic for years to come.
