Review of The Four Feathers (2002) by Jiana W — 10 Jul 2011
I gave two stars because the cinematography was pretty. Otherwise, this probably deserves only one star. Lame story in the first place; hackneyed revisionist version of it in the second. This marks the third of the Four Feathers versions I have seen, and I still don't quite understand why this was made into a movie at all, much less three times! I also have read the book.
This last version is the least "accurate" one, per the book itself and per history. I also want to know WHY all the Arab characters from the previous two movies, and from the book, which clearly identifies the main non-British ("native") characters as Arab, are played here by black African actors? WTF?! This irks me greatly.
Seems a bit racist to me. But aside from that, if I hadn't read the book and seen two previous versions of this movie, the story would have been rather incomprehensible since it takes a rather thin and illogical plot and makes it even thinner and more illogical.
In short: blech. Don't waste your time!
