Review of The Fountainhead (1949) by Petter B — 08 Jan 2008
This is a hard movie to rate. The script and screenplay by Ayn Rand is horrible (no surprise there). It´s unbelievably stiff and pretentious, with every chance taken to put forth her philosophy. This might be one reason for Gary Coopers unusually poor acting.
Since there is no real dialog, the only scene that isn't silly is the defense monologue at the end. The choice of the socialistic modern movement in architecture as focus for her egoistic/capitalistic ideals is a nice motif, although left unexplored by the movie.
On the upside, it gave me a few good laughs.
