Review of The Fountainhead (1949) by Manny C — 08 Aug 2010
The late, beautiful and talented Patricia Neal first made a splash in King Vidor's adaptation of Ayn Rand's massive tome The Fountainhead alongside Gary Cooper. Neal took a role that was greatly desired by Barbara Stanwyck.
A flop upon its original 1949 release, today the film can be regarded as a touchstone of Neal's career. Neal steals the show from Cooper, quite an accomplishment for the then 23 year old actress. She easily heats up the romantic scenes with Cooper, perhaps a reflection of the real life infatuation with him.
We've lost a truly remarkable talent.
