Review of The Fountainhead (1949) by Kevin D — 16 Feb 2012
This is such a fantastic film because I feel like it would have the same affect on me had it been completely silent: The filmmaking is so strong that it tells the story by itself. The cinematography sticks out so much.
Whether it's tilted angles or key cuts that eventually cut closer into a character, the camera is just so telling. The visual experience would have been amazing by itself, but the fact that the script is sprinkled with the intelligence and thought-provoking ideas expected from a novel really says a lot.
Rand did a terrific job of adapting her novel to the screen. The set pieces and lighting were terrific, making each shot look like eye candy. The film's events are fairly unpredictable, so you're interest will be caught from the beginning.
This one of a kind film benefits from incredible filmmaking that is matched by its thought provoking script.
