Review of The Fountain (2006) by Greg M — 17 May 2011
Thou this is a strange one to watch unfold and still certain bits baffle me I think its an amazing film to behold. 3 seperate stories from different eras involving the same main characters all come to a head and intermix by the end of this movie in a way that satisfys but confuses to.
A conquistader on orders from the queen looks for the tree of life, a scientist seraches for a cure to his wifes brain tumour and a solo man alone seraches for meaning in his existence. The drawing links for each section are the search for life to keep love alive at any costs.
The regeneration of each character searching for the same thing with different results. By the end hugh jackmans tom has seen what he has to do to sove all the problems that were troubling him in all of his past lives.
Its interwoven amazingly well and is beautifull to watch unfold with great performances all round. Thou the ending goes a bit 2001 ish its easy to at least get a general understanding of what has happened.
This may not even matter as its the emotions we feel watching these characters and the way they solve there problems through there journey through life together thats the most important thing. Maybe needs a few more watchings to get a good grasp on it but throughly fantastic to watch never the less :D.
