Review of The Fountain (2006) by Nick R — 14 Aug 2011
The reason this movie has sooooo many mixed feelings amongst its audience is because it could be interpreted in soooo many different ways. However when I disect this movie with my own opinions, Its a pretty simple yet ambitious plot, it becomes a masterpiece.
I've had to watch this movie more than once to get everything in order, which in this case is this movie's curse. But within that curse there is a silver lining, aronofsky directs this film in such a detailed manner, that once you get the movie, you get it fully.
Now I get pissed off at the advertising team behind this movie, because it promises a love story that spans 1000 years, I call bullcrap on that! My reasoning; the storys that take place in the past and in the future are wayyyyy to asthetic to be just filler for the movies story.
Theres an emotional connection between the present and the past/future. The future represents the main characters heart, and how he's had to deal emotionally with his wifes disease. The past represents his wifes book, which in its self represents her thoughts on his how he acts/thinks and the ways he's treated her through their marriage.
As for the present, it shows us the reality of their situation and their love. Pretty beautiful for the set up. I can't go into much more detail without giving too much away, but I will tell you that if you watch this movie, you will either love it to pieces or you will hate it and never watch it again.
It's just that kind of movie. Well now knowing my interpretation on it, hopefully it helps you decide to whether watch it or not.
