Review of The Fountain (2006) by Andrew A — 08 Nov 2011
Let me first state that Darren Aronofsky happens to be one of my very favorite directors. That being said, this movie is a pretentious mess. It is a muddled story of love and a man not willing to relinquish said love.
It is told in a very non-straightforward way that spans three stories over thousands of years centering on the finding of the tree of life. I guess it's supposed to be some allegory on accepting death and letting go of those we love but it takes its message in a completely misguided direction.
Like all Aronofsky films it is completely ambitious but this was a truly wasted effort.
