Review of The Fountain (2006) by Ingela A — 01 Mar 2012
After reading revwies like: "Brilliant" Unique", "Extraordinary" and "Heart-brakingly beautiful" I really expected something special - and got sooo dissapointed!
I wanted to like this movie. The previews were very eye catching, and the premise was also very good. A thousand year epic. Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations.I thought the film was boring, predictable, pretentious and full of clicheés!!
I love some of Aronofskys films: masterpieces like "The Wrestler", "Requiem for a dream" and also "Black Swan" The Fountain is just Darren Aronofsky trying to be Stanley Kubrick.
Technically, this is an impressive motion picture, but the fragmented story results in poor character development and Aronofsky's clinical approach limits identification. The overall experience fails to satisfy on a basic level. This is one of those films it's easier to be impressed with than it is to like.
