Review of The Fountain (2006) by Cole M — 16 Nov 2013
Initially this film blew me away. It had me captivated from the very first frame and had me in tears at multiple moments. But the more I watch this film, and the more I understand it, the more I realize that this may be the greatest film ever made.
Visually its immaculate, Hugh Jackman gives his career best, and the framework and composition of the story is astounding. Though its confusing as hell, even now after seeing it probably 10 times I still don't fully understand, it does say a lot about love, life, and death, and the results are visceral.
Seriously people, ignore the tomato meter. This film was not understood by critics, as you will find by reading their reviews. They missed the mark, and damned this film into the abyss.
