Review of The Fountain (2006) by Harrison S — 12 Jul 2015
This is not a film you watch once. It is a film that gets better with each viewing. I saw the movie about 6 times before I began reading Joseph Campbell. I just finished my first run through since reading Hero With a Thousand Faces and The Power of Myth and the story makes so much more sense now.
This film is full of symbolism about life, death, and rebirth that have been used in mythology for thousands of years. This is the closest I've ever seen a movie come to dealing with elementary ideas in a mythological context.
It's always moved me on some deeper level than other films. And an incredible performance by Hugh Jackman doesn't hurt.
