Review of The Fountain (2006) by Jarrett M — 28 Aug 2011
The Fountain certainly is interesting and the film moves along at a good pace, but I can't exactly call it a success. It certainly isn't Darren Aronofsky's most accessable film and is very metaphorical.
Decent performances from the cast, but Jackman is the backbone of the film and doesn't disappoint. The story is not an easy one to follow and requires a strict attention and a willingness to see beyond what you are shown.
Aronofsky's vision is bold, and I applaud it, but I wonder if it came to fruition as he imagined it. The visuals of the film are beautiful and well crafted; a joy to behold. Worthy of a viewing for fans of Aronofsky's work, but this isn't his best.
Others may find this a little too out there for their tastes.
