Review of The Fountain (1934) by Skyler B — 12 Jan 2013
Due to my constant fascination with the fountain I watched the film only to realise that I have watched it before. I think personally that Hugh Jackman had too much of a Hulk and rage inside of him than the role needed.
And no matter how much I like Rachel Weisz he is not esoteric enough for this role, Cate Blanchett would have been so much better. I love the scenes taken out of context like the bath, or impression made by Lillian about Izzi.
But those were moments. And the film did not feel as one whole piece. It felt shattered and in chaos, not fully united at the end either. The only reconcilliation is music. And that it is the only reason why this film is worth watching, to listen to Clint Mansel masterpiece.
