Review of The Foreigner (2017) by Andy G — 06 Feb 2018
I really wanted to like this movie. I thought the concept was great. Definitely the type of material you don't typically see from Jackie Chan. However, the execution just didn't work for me. I thought the movie had a lot of potential. I think if the movie had focused more on a personal connection with Jackie Chan's character, allowing the story to unveil from his perspective, it could have been fantastic. Instead, the movie decided to put most of its focus on this group of terrorists, which honestly, were incredibly uninteresting. This led to the story itself feeling so boring to me. Thankfully, there were some good scenes of action with Jackie Chan. More of his traditional style fight scenes than I would have expected for a movie like this, but those were a nice touch. However, the movie just needed a lot more of Jackie Chan and a lot less of the terrorist side of things. So for me, the movie just fell too flat, and ultimately was a disappointment for me.
Personal Grade: D.
Technical Score: 51%.
