Review of The Football Factory (2004) by Michael L — 15 Dec 2009
A caricature of itself, The Football Factory is still Nick Love's best film and the best of the football lad films the UK is so keen to finance. Starring Danny "couldn't stop a pig in an alley" Dyer as the hilarious Danny Dyer, Love mixes a romantic vision of football casuals, with strong continental lager and plenty of charlie with a Romeo and Juliet story of love across gang rivalries.
Fair play to the ending which avoids a hinted at message that this existence is puerile by launching our hero back into the mire, which does at least rise this above the predictable. The Football Factory is worth watching as a best in class film and the spin off TV series The Wheel Football Fact-twees is comedy in it's purest form but avoid the thousands of copies, Green Lanes etc.
Proper.
