Review of The Fog of War (2003) by Chris K — 18 Jul 2008
A fascinating insight into the minds of people who make decisions that truly shape history. McNamara clearly shows a lot of regret with regards to the decisions taken over Vietnam and Japan, but the lesson regarding understanding and empathising with your "enemy" is surely the most salient one.
Where his administrations were able to do this they saved millions of lives (Cuba Missiles Crisis) and where they were not (Vietnam) thousands died needlessly. This should be compulsive viewing, but I doubt anyone in the White House has ever read a history book.
