Review of The Fog of War (2003) by Matthew H — 19 Jul 2009
I loved the way the movie's timeline jumped around. McNamara was facinating to listen too. He went thru some of the most difficult negotiations and found the win win to difuse the situation in Cuba.
Listening to his interviews with Castro and hearing him tell how Castro wanted the USSR to release the nukes on the US even though he knew himself and his tiny island nation would be the first to go. Seeing the anger in his face as he told the story of meeting with the North Vietnamese leader who said that 3.
4M dead meant nothing if they didn't have their freedom as a nation. They were not going to be ruled by the US. Two nations were sending soldiers to die for two completly different reasons. We were caught in a civil war trying to fight Communism as today we are caught in a civil war trying to fight terrorism.
I had no idea how much damange we inflicted on Japanese cities before dropping the bomb.
