Review of The Fog (2005) by Andrew N — 03 May 2010
Now... the first time I saw this movie I thought it was horrid, but then I saw the original and watched it again and it didn't seem as bad, which I thought was weird, because usually it's the other way around.
Did it live up to the classic that is the original? No. And a lot of the changes that were made I didn't like, but some of them I actually did. Like how the diary was found, I thought that was more interesting than in the original and I kind of liked the reverend character better too, although he lacked the depth the original had and that's really the problem with the whole movie, the depth.
None of the characters or the scenes themselves had the kind of depth the original did and it all seemed rushed and forced. And you may think the fog would be a lot cooler, with the updated special effects, but there really wasn't that big of a difference, despite the 25 year gap.
All in all, if you're going to watch one or the other, pick the original, but this actually isn't the worst remake I've ever seen.
