Review of The Flying Scotsman (2006) by Chris S — 29 Sep 2007
I saw this on an airplane on my way to Japan via Swiss Air. It's a captivating lead performance of a dark and driven man.
Quiet bleak with the handling of his demons (being bullied), and it's understandable seeing why Obree wanted to succeed so badly. The supporting cast are very weak and none of them shine out from the linear plot. They are filmed as overly concerned dullards and they left a ring of mundane reality that depressed me.
The scale of Obree's achievement was transitory and as such it doesn't really suit the large format of film very well.
