Review of The Flowers of War (2011) by John S — 19 Jan 2012
The movie is a graphic depiction of the Rape of Nanking China by the conquering Japanese Army. Christian Bale gives a moving performance of an American trap by history along with a group of young girls and a group of Chinese call girls in Catholic Church compound.
Also a Chinese solder battles to defend them with over whelming odds. This film is not for the faint of heart, but is an excellent depiction of history and love. The film is two and a half hours long and passed quickly for me.
