Review of The Florida Project (2017) by Zachary Y — 23 Jan 2018
Sean Baker is a filmmaker on a roll. His latest offering is a funny, naturalistic look at a misrepresented facet of society that manages to be moving and relatable with the greatest of ease. They aren't pandering to the audience or using the typical emotion-manipulating tropes films often use to illicit feeling.
Dafoe is excellent and child actor Brooklynn Prince is a revelation. Rarely have I seen an actor this young convey the range of emotion and depth of subject material, and I can't recall EVER seeing such a funny performance from a child aside from "Boy" (2010).
