Review of The Flamingo Kid (1984) by Scott F — 24 Jan 2009
Saw this movie when it came out in '84 and loved it, and saw it recently and loved it just as much. About a working-class teen (Dillon), his family, and the conflicting desire of the teen to "be something more" with "who he is and where he comes from," so to speak.
He becomes a cabana boy at an exclusive, beach-side club for the summer and learns much he never expected to experience. A great coming-of-age story with a lot of heart... (As an aside, if you make "puppy dog noises" while you eat, you might want to see this film.
