Review of The Five-Year Engagement (2012) by Bob S — 06 Feb 2013
This comedy starring Segel and Blunt, as Tom and Violet, has many laughs, but struggles in the middle - not unlike how their engagement went. It was somewhat difficult to watch them face troubles and lose their wonderful chemistry that it actually affected my enjoyment of the movie.
However, on the flipside, it was inspiring to see how the characters love each other despite all the challenges they face. I would like to see Blunt take on more movies like this as I thought she was terrific in a comedy.
My favorite scene was an engagement party best man speech set to Billy Joel's We Didn't Start The Fire. In addition, most of the friends Tom made in Michigan produced a number of laughs, perhaps excluding the deli love scene which included more mustard than I cared to see.
