Review of The Five Obstructions (2003) by Claudine D — 10 Sep 2007
I kind of want to watch this again.I know a lot of people didn't like the way von Trier acted, and sure, it was a little bit ridiculous - but what I noticed most about the interaction between Leth and von Trier is that Leth seemed to be having an awesome time.
He seems to me like the kind of man who really, really, really enjoys the challenge of not just managing to do something, but to do it WELL, despite any obstacles in his way. It really showcased his innovation and creative ability, while being just.
.. an amazing director. Von Trier is very well aware of that, I think. He wasn't trying to be disrespectful - I thought his overall intention was to show how impressed he was with Leth's skills.
But maybe that's just me.
