Review of The Fisher King (1991) by Hunter S — 08 Feb 2010
I had wanted to see this before I knew it was directed by Terry Gilliam, and when I found out I fairly quickly actually watched it (TY Netflix on PS3).
Firstly: Q and Jerry Espinson. And the Dude, and Niles/Abe's voice, and, well, Robin Williams. And Honey Bunny.
Secondly: I feel like Terry Gilliam, at least in some of his films, shows a real interest in the fringes of society (homeless, traveling performers, the insane, the British). Tom Waits rocks out in his small role.
The acting is a little, I'm going to say, stylized in parts. And Parry's insanity changes character when necessary, but I think it's part of the philosophy that the actual facts of the story should never get in the way of telling the story.
Anyway, this is too much like a real review. Sorry.
