Review of The Fisher King (1991) by Richard C — 23 Dec 2012
Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges give it their all but while this may be just Terry Gilliam's direction being what it is to supposed to be, the film suffers as a result of moving from one aspect that appears interesting and then moving to a completely different aspect that does not seem to make any sense or any vision of intelligence.
It has its moments but the character development does extend itself as too long, and the message of showing what is designed for each character is somehow limited. A good example is Bridges' shock-jock DJ who is not given enough time, or even any, to illustrate the shock-value behaviour that the film intends to portray.
It feels like a good film but ultimately, the stance as a primarily OK film is shown via its style which becomes a frustrating aspect as in terms of crafting the film, specifically in the slightly unassuming final act.
