The movie only focuses on one of the two rescues detailed in the book. It's fair to say the plot is slow to evolve and the transitions between events on the boat and those on shore are a little jarring.
But the weaknesses are far outweighed by the strengths of the movie and you will find yourself gripping the armrests hard for the whole tension filled last hour. Great movie, great story.
