Review of The Finest Hours (2016) by Vince A — 08 Feb 2016
This was a great movie. Very intense at times. Great special effect too. Not a lot of big name actors, but they did a great job. I have new respect for Chris Pine, who made a very convincing mild mannered sailor.
Casey Affleck was also very good. It's based on a true story and the film manages to stay honest with most of the facts. The SS Pendleton breaks in half during a storm. At the almost the same time, another tanker splits in two.
However, the Pendleton isn't able to get a distress signal out. While most of the Coast Guard resources are trying to save the Fort Mercer, the Pendleton accident isn't discovered right away. Only a small 36 ft boat is available to try a rescue, in very bad weather.
There are 30 sailors waiting to be rescued, but the boat is built to handle 12. It's an amazing rescue attempt by some very brave men. I highly recommend it.
