Bale establishes himself as the greatest actor of my generation (a title toward which he has been marching since Empire of the Sun). Melissa Leo is a bit over the top but Amy Adams is subtle and captivating.
Takes the down-and-out boxer movie and turns it just enough to add something new to the genre.
