Review of The Fighter (2010) by Jerry R — 07 Aug 2012
The road that "The Fighter" takes to get to its conclusion is a road that's been traveled many times before, but it's a less a film about story than it is about its characters and execution.
Mark Wahlberg and Amy Adams turn in two solid performances, but they are constantly overshadowed by Christian Bale, who immerses himself in the role of Dicky Eklund. As well, David O. Russell brings his usual sense of immediacy and technical innovation, injecting nearly single frame with an energy that's hard to find anywhere else.
"The Fighter" isn't intended for surprising its audience nor is its conclusion overly satisfying, but it's an involving, well-acted sports drama.
