Review of The Fighter (2010) by Jackson E — 04 Nov 2012
It's a rather worn-out underdog theme, and this go-round doesn't come with the time-honored, albeit hackneyed, message of inspiration, but it's really better without it. A mesmerizing look at addiction, family values, and perseverance, bolstered by a great screenplay, fine cinematography (I particularly enjoyed the boxing scenes with the TV-esque resolution quality effect thingamajig), and some TKO performances by Wahlberg, Adams, Leo, and especially Bale.
