Review of The Fighter (2010) by Matt M — 16 Feb 2013
The rise to the light heavyweight championship of boxer "Irish" Micky Ward who was shepherded by his brother Dicky, himself a boxer thrown off rail by his descent into a life of drug abuse and crime.
Following in the long line of tradition of good boxing films, this one finds added impact with a visual realism and quasi documentarian style as well as a narrative depth and character study that a lot of films of the kind disregard, a factor that is highlighted by the strong support characters.
Bale and Whalberg deliver powerhouse performances, worthy of the script's power.
