Powerful, gritty performances by Wahlberg, Bale and Adams make this predictable boxing movie better than it should be. Dicky and Micky are brothers who box. Dicky is past his prime and into crack, Micky is becoming a wash-out because his family is bringing him down by keeping him under their thumb (mom is manager and Dicky is trainer) and focusing on Dicky's past fame.
Enter Charlene, the bartender who falls for Micky and makes him see his own value and what the family is doing to him. Good stuff here.
