Review of The Fifth Estate (2013) by Kimberly P — 30 Mar 2014
I liked it. Do I think it accurately depicted the entire chronology of the biggest 3 years of Wikileaks' existence? Of course not but great performances from two strong leads sprinkled with enough drama to make it interesting made it an entertaining movie.
I think people are expecting a documentary here even though this movie never claims to be one and are coming away disappointed. The final few scenes with the tension over redaction between Schmitt and Assange are really well done and the rush of exposing wrongdoing and malfeasance are all tangible throughout the movie.
Maybe I just wasn't expecting much, but I was entertained and in the end, that's what a movie is supposed to do. Not the best movie ever, but I not as bad as critics say and I seriously think people were expecting too much from it.
