Review of The Fifth Element (1997) by Anand K — 19 Jul 2013
Still a favorite sci-fi - this is a wondrous presentation of the future with a weird esoteric plot, kooky incidents intertwined with decent action sequences. Jovovich kinda plays her character too dumb (she is supposed to be a supreme being) and Oldman is so quirky as to be distracting, though it sort of works well that way.
Tucker adds a little comic relief to the movie but is entirely an unneeded character for the plot. And Holm does such a good job at acting that he makes the rest look bad. Willis is typical, playing the role he plays in every movie, without effort, embellishment or uniqueness, but still more than adequate and satisfying.
