Review of The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) by Andrew B — 04 Aug 2008
One of the most boring films I have seen in a long while. I always try to keep my mind open, but I found myself yawning pretty quickly through this one. The film has a unique visual and aural style however, so for that reason it managed to fascinate to a degree, but the script is disgracefully bad and the staging and direction of the suposed comic moments fall flat.
The performances are dim and annoying. Douglas Slocombes cinematography soars above the material, and the art direction is vivid, but it is like watching a series of slides rather than a movie. Its neither funny nor scary not particularly enjoyable.
The dance macabre scene is the one exception. This has great style.
