Review of The Favourite (2018) by Stu B — 25 Jan 2019
Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown. When sickly and prickly Queen Anne (who ruled England in the early years of the 18th century) finds herself caught between the maneuverings and manipulations of Lady Sarah Churchill, her longtime nursemaid and advisor, and Abigail Masham, an ambitious young servant girl new to her staff--and has to decide which one to keep in her employ--all hell breaks loose in the royal bedchamber.
..and beyond. Impeccably done in every way, with some of the finest acting of the year. Starring Olivia Colman as the morose and tragic Queen, and Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone as Lady Sarah and Abigail, respectively.
Nominated for a slew of Oscars, including Best Picture, and deservedly so. Funny, too. The warts-and-all costume drama has never looked better. Don't miss it.
