Review of The Favourite (2018) by Keith G — 07 Jan 2019
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, The Favourite follows three women in a political drama about power and a war with France. Emma stone is incredible in this movie, she is powerful when she needs to be but can play the innocent girl extremely well and her range is clearly defined throughout this role. Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman also give incredible performances worthy of the Oscar praise. Nicholas Hoult played the opposition leader, and I really enjoyed his character the way he pushed people around to get what he wanted was quite humorous throughout.
The music throughout the film created a very intense, tension filled environment. At one point, the same tune played for probably 10-15 minutes straight and it felt like something could happen at any given moment.
My one issue with this film is the ending. I was invested in the characters and intrigued to find out what would happen to everyone and the way it ended left me feeling a little empty and like the last two hours were a bit of a waste.
