Review of The Family Fang (2016) by Fritz B — 10 May 2016
Jason Bateman's second time at bat as director (and star) is well, pretty "fang-tastic! Nicole Kidman (who seems to finally have thawed) plays Bateman's sister. As kids, they grew up as part of "performance art" parents art.
Needless to say, they are somewhat messed up and forced to work together when their parents disappear. The parents are play in present day by Christopher Walken and Maryann Plunkett(!) - and in flashbacks by Jason Butler Harner(!) and the always wonderful Kathryn Hahn.
Playwright David Lindsay-Abaire adapted the novel for the screen. The film is both hilarious and moving - and ultimately thought provoking. Saw it a week ago and still thinking about it. You can see it in the cinema or streaming.
