Review of The Fall (2006) by Adam W — 25 Mar 2010
Within 30 minutes this movie had climbed its way up into my top 5 movies - I didn't care how it was going to end.
So few things have such immaculate design and visual beauty. It is a mishmash of the best aspects of so many things. The vistas of Baraka with roots in Tarkovsky and some how the likeable and quirky character work of Wes Anderson. I was touched by the story and enjoyed to no end the many layers and ideas it dealt with.
The acting is wonderful with amazing performances from the little girl, Alexandria, and her supporting cast. Including the monkey, Wallace, that should have won an Oscar.
It's not without it's flaws and is probably more of a 4/5 but I am giving it 5 because so few directors would attempt anything like this and pull it off with such style and emotion. One of the greatest achievements in cinema - this is truly what the art form was meant for and not for stuff like "The Bounty Hunter".
