Review of The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021) by Jluis_001 — 19 Sep 2021
Totally anchored in a completely metamorphic performance by Jessica Chastain, The Eyes of Tammy Faye sticks out a bit outside of the predictability mold, and that will grant it more attention for regular audiences. Jessica Chastain delivers an Oscar-worthy performance, while his co-star Andrew Garfield is not far behind, but as often happens in many films like this one, these unfortunately don't live up to what its lead actors do, and only manage to save themselves because of it.
Is not always good to see films being overshadowed by the performances of its cast. And why is that not a really good thing for this film? Because this film is the dramatization of a 20 year old documentary with the same title.
I haven't seen it, but from everything I've read about it, apparently it's much better. So this dramatic recreation only serves as vehicles for its actors to get nominations and perhaps some awards in the coming awards season, but beyond the recognition of its actors' work, there's little to mention about the rest.
