Review of The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021) by Indiefilmlover — 17 Sep 2021
Intriguing character study of Tammy Faye Bakker held together by Jessica Chastain's bravura performance. Not only does she act, but she sings as well. The character is presented with respect, but not without humor.
Structurally, the film is very episodic, trying to hit significant moments in Bakker's life rather than focus solely on the events leading up to her eventual downfall. The script by Abe Sylvia (based on the documentary of the same name) is never boring.
The film should appeal to those interested in the subject matter or for those looking for something other than the franchise films that dominate the market.
