The Eyes of My Mother has many things going for it; black and white to make it grainy and subtle, a very twisted character, and its use of violence to where we think we see it but it's mostly offscreen.

Even with these elements I couldn't help but think we've seen something like this before (*cough *cough PSYCHO). The thing with Psycho though is that it put those elements to good use. With this movie, we get a very uneven plot, not too much of a twist (or at least one we've seen coming many times before), and a main character that I got so bored with seeing on screen.

The main character, Francisca, is very hard to grasp; she had moments where she gave me chills with her dialogue and behavior, but at the same time she felt very out of place to where it just confused me on why she does the certain actions she does.

Yes, she witnesses a scarring death but even then she felt like she wasn't affected by any of it. Most of the movie just made me think of Psycho, Texas Chainsaw, and the actions of infamous serial killers that inspired those movies, such as Jeffrey Dahmer and Ed Gein.

Is this movie disturbing like it promised...yes. Is this movie one that will stick with you even after it is done...perhaps but maybe not for too long. When going into this indie film, I was hoping for something as twisted as The Witch, but sadly that is not what I got.

This movie isn't terrible, but it's uneven plot and characters make it a so-so horror movie that'll probably not be anything too memorable to remember.
