Review of The Experiment (2010) by Tim F — 22 Feb 2011
This movie is the latest version of the famous 'forbidden experiment' that does show us a multipurpose effect, though it is grave. From start we are flushed with shocking images that realy occured.
So we see the aproach of the protester, as is Travis, very suitible played by Adrian Brody. After a rather short intro, centered around him, he signs up for an experiment, mostly because of the money.
The others are mostly also in this for the money, as repeatedly said. I asked myself in what time this occurs but I think it's just present day. The men are given certain 'rules' and what later appear to be doubtful terms.
The trouble starts off with minor events, upsetting some. Grouppressure, roles and how to act become key. But then it becomes clear that our weird mama's boy, peculiarly acted by Forrest feels the power in an extroardinairy way.
He is very inventful, takes the leader-role and I must say Forrest does an outstanding job here. He talks a lot what soon seems to be like preaching and taking things in his own hands. The humiliation becomes devastating.
And we are only 2 days into the experiment. The meaning of the red light is easily misinterpreted, you can't know for sure. Travis becomes the victim of being good, surely he's become 'the prissoner'.
Soon it will go out of hand. There are some sidestories like the diabetese guy and the mexican hombre, played by the familiar Clifton. The violence is very well captured and after that there seems top be a revelation after all.
They managed to make this famous experiment pretty exciting and a solid piece that shows us the grave effects poeple can have on theirselves in certain conditions. Nice!
