Review of The Experiment (2010) by Sarfaraz A — 03 Jul 2013
Directed by Paul T. Scheuring. Starring Oscar-winners Adrien Brody (The Pianist), Forest Whitkaer (The Last King of Scotland) - based on true events of 1971 on Philip Zimbardo's accounts of the 2001; The Experiment is remake of controversial German film 'Das Experiment'.
Travis (Adrien Brody) a tattooed-long-hair person in need of cash, having been laid off due to surge in economy - to go on travel with his new girlfriend (Maggie Grace) - he responds to an ad in newspaper for the psychological-behavior test in a prison for fortnight alongside two dozens men divided into separate groups of guards and prisoners. They need not be violent toward each other. Barris (Forrest Whitaker) a sadist takes over the job of guards having realized erection power from inflicting torture - Travis is looked upon as the so-called leader of inmates and target of humiliation and torture at the hands of Barris -.
When I started watching the movie, it sort of grew interest inside me, and I was pretty glad to say to myself that I was gonna have a wonderful experience that I have had with Spaniard film 'Celda 211' (Cell 211) 2009'. Forest Whitaker was glowing with his strong performance as sadist (unfortunately, he is often neglected on fine acting at roles such as this one). Few people argue that the movie kinda freaked out at near climax to have let things get slipped off the hands - I will put it in this way, that rather than bloodshed and eye for an eye concept, it was more necessary to skip to acceptable way of accepting the natural phenomenon of losing temper. A good entertaining movie!
