Review of The Experiment (2010) by Melissa S — 02 May 2011
I haven't seen the original German version...but this one was "okay." Forest Whitaker, who is a good actor in most movies...is just not completely convincing in his transformation. Also, Adrien Brody, as the "Anti-Establishment Hippie Dude," is fairly obnoxious, even when you sympathize with him on a moral level. The movie should have stopped with the end of the experiment though...and not bothered trying to show an "aftermath," which just removed a lot of the surreal element from the film.
Also, Adrien Brody tells the interviewer at the beginning that he's not religious or spiritual in any way. If so...then WHY DID THE DIRECTOR COVER HIM IN RELIGIOUS TATTOOS? WTF? He has Buddhist, Hindu, and possibly Hebrew(?) tats for some reason. Big ones. And the director knew that tattoos were important to the story...because there is a major plot point revealed by another prisoner's Neo-Nazi tattoos. Huh?
