Review of The Experiment (2010) by Matt C — 07 Sep 2012
Very confusing stuff, lifted above the norm by Brody and Whitaker. We have a remake of the famous Stanford Experiment and the German film 'Das Experiment' where people are randomly assigned the role of prisoner or guard in order to study how this affects their behaviour.
The film supposedly starts set during the Vietnam war, complete with a war protest and everyone dressed in sort of 70s clothes. As soon as they 're in the 'prison' though they seem to forget that and everyone keeps making present day cultural references about 'Moulin Rouge' and the Discovery Channel.
We even have one guard being dressed as an Emo! Anyway setting that aside it's watchable enough but I suspect 'Das Experiment' is probably better and I know for a fact 'The Wave' is a better watch, which is a similar concept.
