Review of The Expendables (2010) by Jathavan A — 30 Aug 2012
Pirate leader: Drop your guns!
Lee Christmas: Fat chance.
Barney Ross: Why do they always say that?
You can read countless reviews by critics that call this film is dumb, mindless, forgettable cheap, lazy, and maybe a minute too short, and you know what? I can't blame anyone for disliking The Expendables. Considering the cast, and production for this movie, I was fairly let down by how short this was, and also how the movie consistently took itself way too seriously for something in which the only thing it has to offer is dumb fun. It will not make you smarter, but let me tell you right now: it IS entertaining! There are so many action movies these days with over-blown action sequences that bore me, they all look great, but are boring. In The Expendables, Stallone very neatly, carefully, and stylishly crafts his action as if it were his one destiny to make every second of his cheap summer blockbuster The Expendables to be entertaining no matter what, and the man ultimately succeeds! (that is if you can make out what the actors are saying) Here we have a very re-watchable movie. This has got it's flaws for sure, but I cannot help but have fun with it, especially when it's compared to most boring action flicks that kind of look like this movie from a raw perspective. Mantastic!
Lee Christmas: What's he saying?
Hale Caesar: He said we're dead with an accent.
Barney Ross: We ain't dead.
