Review of The Expendables (2000) by Daniel H — 28 Aug 2012
As expected, you will quickly find that you prefer your preconceived notion of this movie to how it turned out. Sly is too busy resting on his laurels with a gimmicky cast to remember to include energetic or interesting direction, dialogue that isn't stiffer than wood, characters with color or chemistry, blood that isn't digital or an enlivening spirit that might've recapture the thrill of the movies he's trying to remind us of.
Instead he slaps together a cheap and nauseatingly self-serious B movie so thoroughly by the numbers that by the time Jet Li gets to show some skills, I'm too bored to enjoy it.
